The highly anticipated historical biopic “Quezon” is slated to begin production in March 2025, with a target theatrical release later this year, TBA Studios announced in a statement.

“Quezon” is set to mark the studio’s first major production since 2020 and after the success of “Heneral Luna” and “Goyo: Ang Batang Heneral.”

To be directed by Jerrold Tarog, “Quezon” will delve into the life of Manuel L. Quezon, the first president of the Philippine Commonwealth, focusing on his turbulent presidential campaign against then President Emilio Aguinaldo.

TBA Studios President and COO Daphne Chiu said that “Quezon” is designed as a stand-alone story and the casting for the movie is currently underway.

The production has garnered support from the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) and the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP), with the latter providing funding as part of its initiative to promote world-class Filipino films.

TBA Studios is known for distributing acclaimed international films such as the Academy Award-winning “Everything Everywhere All At Once,” “Past Lives,” and “Triangle of Sadness,” starring Dolly de Leon, to Philippine theaters.

TBA Studios’ “Heneral Luna” became the country’s highest-grossing historical film during its 2015 theatrical run and was the Philippines’ official entry for Best Foreign Language Film at the 88th Academy Awards.
